Green Team Twente is a student team from the University of Twente, specialized in sustainable mobility. They design, build and race in one of the most fuel-efficient hydrogen cars in the world. They show that you need little fuel to get far (> 900km / L). This year they will once again demonstrate this at the most prestigious student eco-race in the world, the Shell Eco-Marathon 2019 in London.

    Green Team Twente

Green Team Twente is an international and multidisciplinary team from the University of Twente, consisting of 21 dedicated students. The members of Green Team Twente are divided into sub-teams: Management, Communication and the technical teams, namely Mechanical, Strategy, Electric and Hydrogen. Green Team Twente will compete against the 200 best student teams from Europe for the title of the most fuel-efficient car. Each team must complete the course within a certain time, after which the fuel consumption is measured. Green Team Twente has been at the top for many years, and again this year they strive to match the victories in 2012 and 2017.

    Sustainable mission

Green Team Twente is a pioneer in the field of sustainable mobility. They design, build and race with one of the most fuel-efficient hydrogen cars in the world. The student team believes in hydrogen as an answer to the growing demand for new fuels. No greenhouse gases, only water vapor as an outlet, fast refueling and safe storage: hydrogen has it all! As one of the technical student teams at the top of the world, they push the boundaries of hydrogen mobility.

    3D printer

    Challenge; 3D printing of parts

The team often needs smart solutions to fix parts in the car, for example. These are then made by using the 3D printer. 3D printers, however, are serious fire risks. Saval has been approached to come up with a smart solution to protect the printer.

Common causes of fire with 3D printers

+ Poor quality of power supply
+ Short circuit on the motherboard
    + Heating element overheating
    + Poorly fixed thermistor
+ Use of low quality or too thin cables

Solution; Reflex extinguishing system with pressure switch

We have supplied a 1 kilogram Reflex extinguishing system for the closed 3D printer filled with Novec 1230 extinguishing gas. This version has an extinguishing capacity of 1.7 m³ and the pressure switch can also switch off the 3D printer, so that further escalation is prevented.
