Gas detection

Gas detection

Gas detection is a highly sensitive early warning system that can detect certain types of molecules. It is invaluable for locations with flammable gases and vapours and an increased risk of explosion.

Where can fire detection be applied?

This type of system is primarily used in industry, such as oil processing plants and petrol/acetone/methane storage facilities.

The system

Each type of gas or vapour has a range within which a small ignition source, with sufficient energy, can cause ignition or explosion – between the LEL (lower explosive limit) and UEL (upper explosive limit). Between these two values, the gas/air proportion is such that ignition or combustion is possible. A gas detection system triggers an alarm when certain toxic or flammable gas molecules reach a particular percentage in the air. This percentage obviously lies below the limit for explosion or ignition risk.
